This last Martin Luther King Jr Day, The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center had free admission for the public. This museum had been on my bucket list for awhile and I figured what better way to honor Dr King than by learning about slavery in the United States. The Freedom Center also had free admission during the entire month of February (Black History month), so if you're in Cincinnati during that time, it's something to look into.
It is really well put together but designed for older children and adults. Some of the exhibits I felt awkward having Hulk there because of the gravity of the content but he was in a good mood and willing to indulge me. I really liked the museum. I am not sure which word to use here. I can't really say that I "enjoyed" the museum because that would imply that is was entertaining in some way. It was eye-opening, educational, and at times it made me feel uncomfortable but in a "I can't believe people are so horrible, how can I learn from this?" kind of way.
I only took one picture because I was busy teaching my son that people should not "be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character." After all, "education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world."
It is a museum that we will continue to go back to because it is important to learn about both sides of history - the good and the bad.
